Ladies Cup Final
Hawks v Eagles

The clubs have been battling hard for several weeks in the Cup League, which in turn saw some excellent hockey played; it was now time for the Cup league to be settled.  Hawks HLC were comfortably in top position having played all of their games and taken a 10 goals difference between them and the team in second position; Eagles HC. The final herefore came down to Hawks LHC vs. Eagles. The Eagles took the lead within the first ten minutes, taking advantage of a defence error from the Hawks however with the ever persistent pressure the Hawks per putting the Eagles under, it was only time before their first goal was slotted at the back of the net by Heidi Duo slotting the ball home following some good work at a penalty corner from Hawks. The second, third and fourth goals shortly followed as the Eagles were confronted with wave after wave of attack.
The Eagles however kept in good spirits and managed to capitalise on some lapses in concentration and re-shuffling of players from their opposition which lead to a further three goals being scored. Not to be deterred and young Sadie Lucas brought them back in it with a good run down the right wing. A quick breakaway from the dangerous Luanne Perez saw Janieve Buhagiar find space in the D and make no mistake to make it 4-3. Eagles were buzzing and Hawks were showing nerves. With just minutes left it was to be Buhagiar again who found the ball in the D and created space for her to slot the ball between the keepers legs and equalise the game. The final would be decided on shootouts!

The match finished 4-4 and the Eagles won on penalties. It was Eagles who had the upper hand here and made no mistake with their shootouts to take home the cup in a well fought game of hockey.

Mens Cup Final
Eagles vs Grammarian Reserves

The second final of the day squared Eagles against Grammarians. Eagles fielded an experienced side, in stark contrast to the young Grammarians side in front of them. It made for an interesting match up. The first half was a cagey affair with neither team creating many chances. Grammarians keeper Uhdwani pulling off a few fine saves to keep Eagles at bay. Teams went into the break at 0-0.  The deadlock was broken early in the second half when a penalty corner flick was stopped on the line by a Grammarians foot and a penalty stroke awarded. Thomas Silva stepped up and made no mistake to put Eagles 1-0 up. The young Grammarians side pushed for the equaliser but found it tough against a determined Eagles defence. A mistake by the Grammarians defence gifted Eagles a counterattack and Kyle Davis slotted home for 2-0 and what appeared to be game over. Grammarians kept pushing and were given a lifeline when Ryan Gabay tucked away nicely past Colin Davies to make it 2-1. Unfortunately for them it was to be too little too late as the final whistle blew shortly after and it would be Eagles who would lift the silverware.
